Schinoussa
Schinoussa is a picturesque island located approximately in the center of the Small Cyclades, south of Naxos and northeast of Iraklia. It is a small island with a few inhabitants (200) and an area of 8.144 square kilometers, ideal for peaceful vacations.
The island has been inhabited since ancient times. It has two settlements, Chora and Messaria, with the first being 1000 meters from the port and the second 2.5 kilometers away.
According to tradition, its name comes from the shrub schinos (scientific name: Pistacia lentiscus), a plant with an amazing resinous smell that thrives across the Aegean islands. One variety of schinos is the mastic tree of Chios, which produces the valuable mastic. However, there is another version that the island was named after the Venetian lord Schinoza.
Schinoussa is the driest place in Greece, almost classified as a desert. Nevertheless, its crystal-clear turquoise waters, golden beaches, wild landscapes, otherworldly tranquility, and the simplicity of its inhabitants create a magical recipe for relaxed, restful holidays, offering the feeling that you have discovered an accessible paradise.
About Us
Outdoor Space – Atmosphere
The outdoor area was designed with the principles of simplicity and naturalness in mind. We aimed to create a sense of minimalistic geometry, making you feel part of the natural landscape, with nothing excessive.
Each room has been named after a Greek herb. Carved on wooden signs, you can find the names of exquisite Greek herbs: Basil, Lemon Verbena, Mint, Spearmint, Labdanum, Savory, Thyme, Oregano, Marjoram, Rosemary, Lavender, and Sage.
However, we didn’t want to simply name the rooms. Outside each one, we planted the corresponding herb, allowing the aromas and colors to naturally blend with each room’s aesthetic.
In addition to the herbs, a rich variety of plants surrounds the rooms: olive trees, grapevines, fig trees, climbing roses, bougainvilleas, honeysuckle, jasmine, carnations, and about 30 other species.
In front of the balconies, a large garden bed approximately 60 meters long, planted with reeds and colorful flowers, adds to the visual beauty. It also acts as a natural filter to clean greywater from the bathrooms and kitchens, allowing it to be reused — a crucial feature on Schinoussa, where water is scarce and precious.
We hope that the combination of concrete, stone, wood, and flowers will offer you, even briefly, a glimpse into a simpler way of life, while still providing all the essentials of Simple Luxury.
Rooms – Atmosphere
We designed the rooms to combine simplicity with luxury. Each bed is a super king-size with a top-quality mattress and mattress topper. The walls are made of natural stone with white mortar.
Lighting is indirect, hidden, and adjustable, creating a warm, cozy atmosphere.
Each room offers:
TV. WiFi. Fridge with freezer. Toaster. Nespresso coffee machine. Electric iron. Kitchen. Dining table and chairs. Wardrobe. Air conditioning. Hot water. The ceilings feature two openings with fans that expel warm air during the day and bring in the cool Aegean breeze at night, offering a natural cooling sensation.
Each balcony is spacious and furnished with a table, comfortable armchairs, a personal hammock, uninterrupted views, and, most importantly, complete privacy.
All materials used are natural (stone, concrete, wood, glass) or ecological (bathrooms are made with the eco-friendly material Heraklith).
