The beaches of Schinoussa are characterized as untouched and belong to a special protection status. Despite its small size, it boasts numerous beaches. From Chora, the sign indicates the distances to the various beaches, with the furthest (Liolios) being at 3.5 kilometers, where for the first-time visitor it seems like it reads 35 km. In Schinoussa, you don't need a car. All the beaches are within short distances and accessible. You feel like you're at the center of the table and have access to all the dishes. There are many other beaches, but they all connect us with the land and the sea, giving us a sense of carefreeness, tranquility, and the opportunity to live for a while untouched, coming into contact with those things that our everyday life and culture have distanced us from, and we yearn for.
Psili Ammos Beach:
Psili Ammos, a relatively small beach with a width of just 60 meters, is one of the island's beautiful spots, known for its turquoise waters, white sand, sand dunes, and few tamarisk trees that offer natural shade. Additionally, it offers a view of the island of Amorgos. To access it, follow the asphalt road for 2.8 kilometers from Chora and then 450 meters of dirt road from the settlement of Mesarias, where there are two taverns. Note that, as it is located northeast, it may be windy when the northern summer wind, known as meltemi, blows.
Livadi Beach:
A dreamy beach located in the southern part of the island with a wide sandy shore and a line of tamarisk trees. Situated in the southern part of the island, it is the ideal destination for families as you are not exposed to the strong northern winds. It is 1000 meters away from Chora, and there is access by car.
Ammoudaki tou Garbi:
It is close to Livadi Beach, tiny, sandy with crystal clear waters. It lacks trees, but offers tranquility and isolation.
Lioliou Beach:
A wonderful coastline with turquoise waters, shallow for a long stretch with a large tamarisk tree on the sandy beach, ideal for playing in the sea.
Tsingouri Beach:
The closest beach to Schinoussa's town is just 5 minutes away and is accessible on foot via the path starting from the town center. Tsingouri is one of the most popular beaches on the island, consisting of two coves. Along the beach, there are tamarisk trees, offering plenty of natural shade. You'll encounter crystal-clear calm waters, and just 100 meters across, there's a small rocky islet called Plaka.
Fykio Beach:
You turn left before reaching Mesaria and find it before reaching the northeastern side of the island, across from Koufonisi. Remote and wild, it is ideal for those who love tranquility on land and fishing.
Almyros Beach:
An excellent beach on the eastern side with white sand, turquoise waters, shaded, ideal for surfers and suitable for children due to the shallow waters. With stunning views of Keros, it is the perfect place to relax on a windy day. To access the beach, follow a dirt road 2.3 km from Chora either on foot or by car.
Mersini Beach or Piso Ammos:
Next to the port, we will find a 60-meter beach with always calm waters, sandy with tamarisk trees. The beach offers natural shade, but it may not be as quiet due to its proximity to the port.
Alygaria Beach:
South of Chora, it has three beaches: (Alygaria, Alygaria 2 or alternatively Gagavi, and Alygaria 3 or alternatively Kampos). Relatively small (the largest is Kampos with a width of 60m, 2.3 miles from Chora) they have coarse sand, rocky surroundings, and a limited number of small caves for shade. The seabed has small pebbles and rocks, ideal for couples and those seeking an alternative way of entertainment.
Agios Vasilis Beach:
The beach of Agios Vasilios is beautiful with fine pebbles at the edge of the peninsula of Agios Vasilios. It has a width of 110 meters and wonderful azure-green waters.
Fountana Beach:
In the bay of Fountana, on the northeastern coast of the island, two small sandy beaches are formed with wonderful azure-green waters and a view of Kato Koufonisi, Keros, and Amorgos to the right. A landmark of the area is the small Venetian castle visible from the beach.
Cavos tou Michali (Michael's Cape):
To reach it, after Lioliou Beach, continue walking following the path extending to your right, where you will encounter three beaches with white pebbles. From Lioliou Beach, follow the small path on the right side of the bay, and somewhere in the middle of the peninsula, start walking close to the water until you reach the small coves. Ideal for nature lovers and hikers.
Gerolimnionas Beach:
Isolated, tranquil natural landscape. Tiny (only 15m wide) but very beautiful beach with coarse sand and turquoise waters in the bay of Gerolimionas, on the western side of the island. Particularly suitable for nature lovers and couples, and ideal for snorkeling. There is no shade. Protected from the summer winds known as meltemia. To get there, follow the road towards Mesaria. Just before you reach there, turn left onto a dirt road and then turn left again. The last 300m of this path are a bit difficult for a car, so many choose to walk it.
Feidou Beach:
Feidou is a small island next to Schinoussa, separated by a very narrow and shallow sea passage. The beach is located in the middle of the island, on the narrow strip of land that connects Upper and Lower Feidou. It is sandy, treeless, with a beautiful seabed and turquoise waters. Ideal for peace and isolation. It is accessible by boat and speedboat.
