Dear visitor,
Welcome to Filotimia's rooms. We hope your stay will be a remedy for the pre-period and a creation of antibodies for post-vacation. The name Filotimia came from the need to express the unique characteristic that someone would choose to express the Greek soul - Philotimo. A word that does not translate directly into any other language and means to do things responsibly, willingly, generously, always with a sense of fulfillment, a mission. That's why we created our rooms with the compass of "Simple Luxury," meaning providing all comforts based on the logic of "Nothing Too Much" (Meden Agan - "Nothing in Excess" and "Know Thyself" were the maxims engraved at the Oracle of Delphi). In terms of construction, we wanted to leave the least environmental footprint, so:
We used as many natural materials as possible: cement, wood, glass, stone. The stone used is from Schinoussa.
Water from showers, sinks, and faucets is directed to a separate tank to be used for watering flowers and plants.
We paid special attention to lighting. In all rooms, the lighting is reflective (to avoid disturbance), sufficient, and adjustable. We wanted to "exploit" the island's natural ventilation, the sea breeze. That's why we left two windows high up to create natural ventilation. (You can use the air conditioning with these two windows open. Cooling comes low, while ventilation high removes the discomfort created by an air conditioner without ventilation).
The endless sunshine of the Cyclades helped us with hot water usage.
The naming of the rooms was given by aromatic herbs: Lavender, Sage, Savory, Thyme, Rosemary, Basil, Spearmint, Labdanum, Mint, Rose Geranium, St. John's wort, Marjoram. Apart from being attractive in appearance, you can also use them in your kitchen. Aiming for ecotourism, not the usual commercial mass tourism, we planted 34 large olive trees around and in front of the buildings. At the entrance, we planted wild olive trees, and at the bottom of the plot, we planted a vineyard with Cycladic varieties (Assyrtiko and Mavrotragano) as well as Muscat. Flowers for their scent and their blossoms are planted everywhere. In the pergola, there is an electric car charging station to support the presence of electric cars on the island.
Finally, we will welcome and take care of you with a smile, willingness, and respect, and we will bid you farewell with wishes for you to feel like you stayed in your own home.
